As an introductory course on global civics, a key aim will be to provide
a general survey of terminology, topics, and theories that will give a
student a basic foundation of this broad subject. The course will
examine the meaning and consequences of the connections that are now at
our fingertips in the 21st century and how those connections have helped
to shape the communities with which we identify.
Additionally, the course will provide a general survey of the variety of global values, ethics and standards that are part and parcel of life in the 21st Century. The spring term of the course will wrap-up with an examination of the domestic versions and visions of global civics which have been nurtured and cultivated in Japan and shared by Japanese throughout the globe.
The course requires students to pay attention to history, be aware of the present, and stay mindful of the future. Students will be challenged to expand their knowledge of world issues and should come to class with an eagerness to learn and an open mind.
